JEWISH SYNAGOGUE

 

During the period of the Turkish rule, the Jewish community of Ioannina was large and prosperous. The Jews of Ioannina faught bravely with their compatriot Greeks during WWI and in 1922. In 1944, 1,870 Jews from Ioannina were driven to concentration camps. The Jewish community today consists of approximately 60 families.
