HISTORY SIGHTS OF IOANNINA

 

Visitors to the city of Ioannina must see:

 

The fortress, with its two acropolises. Also, within the fortress, one can find the ruins of a Byzantine bathhouse (13th century) the only extant monument of the Byzantine town, the Sufari Saray, the Turkish Library, the Synagogue, the house of the Despot, the Misiou Mansion and the house of Pasha Kalou.

 

 

 

 

The micrometer this piece of ground in in the Lake of Ioannina does not exceed the 800 metres in length and the 500 metres in width. The island on Pamvotida Lake, with the Monastery of Philanthropinon and Ag. Panteleimonos.

 

 

 

You will meet the picturesque village Perama only four kilometres from Ioannina on the road that goes from Metsovo to Trikala. The Perama's Cave, which is located at the center of the settlement with the same name.

 

 

 

The ancient site of Dodona. Initially the sanctuary was outdoor and in it was worshipped the Great Goddess, deity of land fertility and welfare, who later was replaced by the worship of Dodoneos Dias.

 

 

 

The Litharitsia Bastion which is located in the center of the city of Ioannina. Atop a hill, in the center of the city of Ioannina is the Litharitsia Bastion.

 

 

 

The town hall of Ioannina. It was built in 1928 after plans and designs of the architect Zoumboulidis who gave it a "Post-Byzantine" style.
