Prefecture of Zakinthos

Village built near the sea, the last of the island to the south, 20km south-west of Zakynthos. It has 680 inhabitants. It is opposite Marathonessi island and reminds of the groups of houses of Sicily and Sardinia. There are thermal springs.

Worth seeing places:

  • The church of "Panagia the Keriotissa", with an excellent gilded wooden and sculptured iconostasis of baroc style (1745).

  • Vaulted grave built with stones.

  • At the end of Marathias there are two huge white rocks, the small and the big Myzithra and around them sea caverns and crystal, azure sea waters.
