Bolimes

Two mediterranean villages, Ano Bolimes and Kato Bolimes, 30km north-west of Zakynthos, with 956 inhabitants in total.

Worth seeing places:

• The Venetian tower, building of the 14th century, in the area of "Micro Nesi".
• The churches of the area, with wall paintings of the 12th-14th century.
• The monastery of Agios Georgios, in a distance of 3km, founded by the monks Varlaam and Macarios in the middle of the 16th century.

• The well known "Galazia Spelia" (sea cavern) discovered in 1897, one of the most beautiful ones of Greece, on the north-east coast of Schinari cape, in a distance of 9km. Inside there are two successive spaces, the Big and the Small Cavern (=Megali and Micri Spelia). The cavern is full of many colors reflected on the waters.
  
  

• The Cavern of "Xegia", near the sea. Inside there is a spring of sulphureous waters.
• Near Bilimes there is the area of Navagio (=wreck) with the beach where noumerous photos have been taken. Characteristic is the wrecked ship on the beach, which gave this name to the area.
