Anafonitria

Mediterranean village with 221 inhabitants, 30km north-west of Zakynthos. It took its name because of the monastery of "Panagia the Anafonitria" which is located in the area. Saint Dionysius lived in solitude in this monastery and hid there the assassin of his brother who was pursued by the authorities.

Worth seeing places:

• The monastery of "Panagia the Anafonitria", building of the 15th century. The sacerdotal vestments of Agios Dionysios are kept here.
• The church of Agia Anastasia.
