Prefecture of Lefkadas







Nydri concentrates the biggest number of tourists of the whole island. It is built lenghtwise the coast, in an all green plain. It is a modern group of houses, 17km south-east of Lefkada and it has 1011 inhabitants. Nydri as well as the city`s port are the third areas of Greece with the greatest going through and serving of yachts. Opposite Nydri there are the islets Prigiponesia, Madoure of the poet maker Aristotle Valaoritis, Chelone, Scorpion and Sparte of the famous Aristotle Onasis, Scorpidi of the magnate Livanos as well as the gulf of Vlychus and the all green cape of Agia Kyriaki. The chapel of Agia Kyriaki dominates in the cape, built among the rocks, as well as the "column of the Nymphs" on the hill above the chapel and the grave of the German archaeologist Derpfeld, who claimed that Nydri was in the Homeric Ithaca.

Worth seeing places:

  • The ruins of prehistoric city, aqueduct and protohellenic circular tombs.
  • The grave of Neperfeld in the area of Agia Kyriaki.

Agia Kyriaki

  • The waterfalls, in a distance of 2km.

  • The islet of Madoure. There is the neoclassic mansion of the poet maker Aristotle Valaoritis.
