Prefecture of Lefkadas







The famous embroideries called "caryssanica" are made in this area. On the road we met the Lefkadian women wearing their traditional costumes, balancing the earthen water-pots on their heads. It is a mountainous village with many elements of traditional architecture and strong faith of its people in the old customs. It is 14,5km south-west of the capital and it has 989 inhabitants.

Worth seeing places:

  • The village of Eglouve, 5km southwards.
  • The monastery of Saint John, in the area of Livadi, 4km southwards.
