A mountainous village, 79 km to the west of Amphissa, which is
built 580m high. The population is 235.
The sights are:
- The historical nunnery of Panagia in Varnakova, dedicated to the Virgin’s Assumption.
The main church was built by the Monk Arsenius in 1077 and it was renovated in 1448. In
1690, during the Turkish-Venetian War, it was plundered and destroyed in 1826 by the
Turks. Kappodistrias restored it in 1831. It is a domed basilica with a narthex and an
outer narthex. The marbled floor has got representations dating back to the 11th
or 12th cent.
