Galaxidi , an old commercial port , is built in a small fjiord , in the site of anciant Oeanthi . It is 29.5 km away to the South of Amphissa .The population is 1718 .It particularly fiourished during the 18th - 19th centuries due to its fleet .Nevertheless , the steam engines and the opening up of Korinthos Isthmus signaled the economic destruction of Galaxidi’s ship owners .The port remains picturesque , with its traditional mansions and the lovely beaches .

The Museum includes findings from the excavations in the area , naval exhibits ,icons ,ship models ,naval maps ,figure heads ,sailing instruments ,seascapes ,weapons of the War of Independence .There are also some interesting churches : St Nicholas church with a carred temple of unique significance , Santa Paraskevi’s church with a zodiac on the floor and a sundial in the yard , St John’s church and Prophet Helias church with old icons 2 km to the North .

Three km away from the town , the tourist can visit the destroyed monastery of Transfigoration .The view you get is panoramic . What has remained is the small church where parts of ancient marble columns are found .The interior has got byzantine murals .
