A small picturesque town, capital of the island. The population is 3.140. The houses white and tile roofed are scattered over a level area planted all over. Thasus is one of the most touristic islands. The landscape is prihanting - it has got areas full of trees, fishing villages and vast golden beaches. The capital is full of multicolored crowds of tourists. Next to the port there is the archaeological site of Thasus and the Theatre of Thasus ( 3th cent ). The Roman Market, the Roman district and the Music School are at the same place.
A part from the buildings and the buildings and the decorated gates there are also the sanctums of Diana, Dionysus, Poseidon, and Hercules who was the protector of Thesur. The archaeological Museum is near the ancient port. The routes in Thasus are enchanting. Most of the times the road goes along the coast line. Large areas are planted with vineyards. Some years ago most at Thasus forests were destroyed by fire. Thus the image of Thasus distorted. However, the vegetation has restored. The bay of Markgammos in the east has got white sand, pinetrees, white marbles and huge hotels. The village of Panagia displayes one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, the Golden Beach. The picturesque villages houses are of Macedonian architecture. Limenaria, the most touristic village, has got many beaches and coastal settlements.
Theologus is the oldest village of Thasus. Its sea - port is Potos, another touristic resort. Near Limenas, there are the picturesque bay of Glyfuda, Skala Rahoniou and Prinus.
