The whole island is an archaeological site : Apollos sanctum. The Lake and the monuments in the north of the Sanctum. The Theatre. The sanctums of deities in Kynthos mountain.

Sights:

  • The remnants of three temples are within the sanctums site : 1) the temple of the inhabitants of Delos ( it started being constructed in 476 B.C. and finished in 314 B.C. ) 2) the temple of the Athenians 3) the temple that was built when Peisistratos reigned.

  • Propylaea (2nd century B.C.) and the Market of Competales. The latter were a commercial Axxociation of Roman citizens and liberated Slaves who honoured Lares Competales ( the gods of the crossroads ) every year.

  • Philips Arcade (3rd cent B.C.), the Southern Arcade which was built by the kings of Pergamus (3rd cent), the House of Naxos. Can archaic building with extensions of the Classical Period), the Arcade of Naxos (6th cent B.C.) the Holy Road.

  • The holy road
  • The altar made of horns (4th cent B.C., made my the Athenians). According to mythology Apollohimself constructed it of the animals horns that Diana had killed in Kynthos.

  • Artemision, the sanctum of Diana, which was initially constructed in the Archaic Period and was restored in 179 B.C.. The huge stertoe of Apollo, the Thesmoforeion - the sanctum of Dimite and her Daughter, the Ecclesiasterion, the Arcade of Antigonos, the monument of the Ball (Taurus), the Prytaneion, the Delos Market and the temple of Dionysus were on the west side.

  • In the district of the Lake, there are the market of the Italians, the small temple of Leto, the temple of the Twelves Gods and the ‘Road of the Lions” which has got nine marble lions - this was a donation of Naxos (7th cent. B.C.).

  • Road of the Lions
  • The Holy Lake where the holy swans of Apollo swam. This lake was covered in 1926, after a malaria epidemic.

  • The public of Byrefos merchants was on the west side of the lake. It served for residence, club and a worship place of Poseidon. The remnants of the ring, the stadium and the gymnasium are in the north.

  • The most denselypopulated area of the town was the district of the Theatre, where remnants of decorated with mosaics houses were found (Hellenistic and Roman Period) : The House of the Masks, the House of Dolphins, the House of the Trident etc.

  • Remnants of a theatre (5.000 capacity) are visible near the House of the Masks.

  • The theater in Dilos
  • Many sanctums in Kynthos mountain, such as the sanctums of Hercules, Zeus, Athinas, Heras Sarapis, the Syrian deities, the deities of Samothrace.

  • The museum exhibits sculptures of the Classical times as well as a collection of earthenware pots from the Prehistorical to Hellenistic Era. The complex of Diana, the statue of Apollo and mosaics floors are also significant.

Around Islands

Renia or Large Delos: it is to the west of Delos. It is an area of 16 square km, the place where Diana was born. It serves for a pastureland. Small and Big Reumataris two small islands between Delos and Renia.
