R.U. of Magnesia

Small littoral village, 56km north-east of Bolos. In the last years a lot of people spent the summer there, because of the very clean sea waters and its beautiful beach. Here, George Drossinis inspired his poem named "Galeni"(=serenity).

Sights:

  • The old, small church of Agios Nicholas, built on the ruins of an ancient temple, with wall paintings. Its older repairings are dated in 1600.

  • The huge sea caves in the harborless area of Palia Mitzela, 1hour and 30min by sailboat. Here, a part of the navy of Xerxes was destroyed in BC 480. In the ancient times, Palia Mintzela -nowadays unihabited- was called Ipnoi. According to the mythology, somewhere here, Thetis -the most beautiful of the fifty Nereids- fell in love with Pileas.
