At the beginning of 1824 Lykourgos learned about a new Turkish expedition against Samos and organized the defense of the island. He particularly tried to encourage the people.

Only the Kallikatzari did not give in. Those of them who were in Psara sent a Peloponnesian war leader together with seventy men with the aim of overthrowing Lykourgos. So, brotherly blood was again shed in Samos. A few of Lachanas' friends were killed and his family was abused a lot.
